The University of Limpopo is holding its Student Representative Council (SRC) elections today, marking a major crucial step moment in student governance for the 2026/27 academic year.

After weeks of intense campaigning, posters, debates, and entertainment activities the time has finally come for students to have their say. Various student political organisations have been on the ground canvassing for votes, each promising better leadership and improved student welfare.

The spotlight is firmly on whether the Economic Freedom Fighters Youth Command (EFFYC) will retain its dominance and secure a fifth consecutive victory. The party has won the last four SRC elections and remains a strong favourite.

However, opposition parties including SASCO, DASO, ActionSA, Young Guard Student Association and other student formations are also determined to break the EFFYC’s winning streak.

The university has urged all registered students to participate and to maintain peace during the voting process. A large voter turnout is expected.

The results of today’s elections will determine who will lead and represent the student voice for the next academic year.
