President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to attend the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, from 12 to 13 September.
Ramaphosa will attend the summit at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The summit will be held under India’s chairship theme, “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Security.”
Leaders are expected to discuss strengthening cooperation among BRICS countries, expanding trade and investment, and reforming global institutions, including the United Nations and international financial institutions.
The discussions will take place amid ongoing geopolitical tensions, including conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, as well as growing competition between major powers.
South Africa is expected to use the summit to promote its economic priorities, including increasing intra-BRICS trade and investment, supporting industrialisation and value addition, and attracting investment in African infrastructure.
Ramaphosa will also participate in the BRICS Business Forum Leaders’ Dialogue, focusing on trade and supply chains, agriculture, women-led development, the digital economy and innovation.
The summit is expected to conclude with the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration.
Ramaphosa will be accompanied by International Relations and Cooperation Minister Ronald Lamola, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni and Deputy Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Zuko Godlimpi.
