Musician and event organiser Sgwebosentambo “Sgwebo” Khoza says he is heartbroken after 11 dancers were killed in a tragic N2 crash while returning from his Isibaya Ingoma Festival in Empangeni.
The dancers, who were part of maskandi artist Mkhathazi Nsibande’s group, died when their Toyota Quantum collided with a sugarcane truck in Mtubatuba and caught fire. Nine of the victims were reportedly burned beyond recognition.
Sgwebo said the tragedy has reopened old wounds, recalling a 2024 accident involving maskandi star Mgojeli Ncube, who was seriously injured while travelling to the same festival but later recovered.
The organiser extended his condolences to the grieving families and admitted he is struggling with the loss, saying he cannot stop wondering whether the victims might still be alive had they not attended his event.
He also urged social media users to verify information before sharing photos and messages about the victims.
