ANC mayoral candidate for Nelson Mandela Bay, Andile Lungisa, says he has a strong legal case against the ANC and its Secretary General Fikile Mbalula after his name was removed from the party’s proportional representation (PR) councillor list for the 2026 local government elections.
Lungisa has approached the High Court in Johannesburg, where the matter is expected to be heard on the 26th of this month.
His legal representative, Sinawo Makangela, argued that Lungisa’s removal from the Nelson Mandela Bay PR list was unjustified, saying he was among the ANC candidates before being excluded.
The case comes after several ANC candidates in municipalities across the Eastern Cape were reportedly left off nomination lists following disputes over the Electoral Commission’s deadlines.
