The eight-year-old daughter of Elizabeth Moselakgomo was the first to raise the alarm after her mother failed to return home from her routine evening jog.

Moselakgomo, 38, disappeared after leaving her Kempton Park home for a run on September 10. Her body was later found following a search.

Speaking after identifying the body at the Germiston mortuary on Monday, Moselakgomo’s uncle, Andries Moroka Matlala, praised the young girl for quickly realising that something was wrong.

Matlala said Moselakgomo had a regular routine of going for a jog after work and returning home at a specific time.

He said the girl became worried when it reached 6.30pm and her mother had not returned.

“I still take my hat off to that young lady because she’s the one who actually broke the news,” Matlala said.

He said the child has been receiving psychosocial support since her mother was reported missing.

Moselakgomo, who was originally from Mpumalanga, worked as the centre manager at Festival Mall in Kempton Park.

Her death comes as police investigate several cases involving women who have gone missing or been found dead in the area.

Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane has vowed that police will leave no stone unturned in bringing those responsible to justice.

The family is awaiting the completion of the post-mortem before the body can be released for burial.
