The case against the owner of the Usindiso building, where a devastating fire claimed the lives of 76 people in August 2023, has been postponed to 15 September 2026.

The matter was postponed after his legal representatives failed to appear in court.

Court proceedings in the Johannesburg High Court heard that the State is expected to call several witnesses, including police officials and experts connected to the investigation. The building owner faces charges linked to the deadly fire, which remains one of South Africa’s worst urban disasters in recent years.

The case is expected to resume next week as the court continues to hear evidence surrounding the tragedy.
