A 62 year old teacher, from Teto Secondary School in Welkom, is recovering in hospital after allegedly being stabbed by a learner.
The incident reportedly happened at the teacher’s home in Dagbreek, after school hours. It is alleged that the Grade 11 learner hid inside the house before attacking the educator with a sharp object.
The Free State Department of Education has condemned the incident and announced that MEC Dr Mamiki Maboya, will visit the teacher to check on her condition and offer support to the family.
The department said the attack is deeply concerning and reaffirmed its position against violence, particularly violence directed at women and educators.
