A 22 year old student was found dead near the University of Limpopo fence in Sovenga on Sunday at about 06:00.
Following the discovery, Mankweng police opened an inquest to determine what led to her death.
Police officers who were patrolling the area received a report about a woman lying motionless next to the university fence. When they arrived at the scene, they found her body partially clothed, with her head inside a trench near the fence.
A preliminary inspection showed no visible injuries on the body. Police also found a bag nearby containing the deceased’s identity document and NSFAS card.
Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and confirmed that the young woman had passed away.
At this stage, it is believed that the woman may have accidentally fallen into the trench, but police are still investigating to establish the exact cause and circumstances of her death.
Her identity has not yet been made public as her family still needs to be informed. Investigations are continuing.
