Two Tanzanian nationals have been arrested after police seized nearly one tonne of dagga worth an estimated RI .5 million at Baobab Tollgate in Limpopo’s Vhembe District.

The two men, aged 32 and 41, were travelling in a Toyota Hilux when they were stopped by members of the Beitbridge Port of Entry Task Team during a roadblock on Friday. Police say the men told officers that they did not have the keys to the canopy padlock, raising suspicion.

They were instructed to proceed to the Beitbridge border facility, where police opened the canopy in their presence. Officers allegedly found 33 bags containing 991.5 kilograms of dagga.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges related to dealing in dagga.

Limpopo police commissioner Lieutenant General Jan Scheepers has commended the officers for their vigilance in disrupting drug trafficking.
