Police have confirmed the discovery of the body of a seventh woman as investigations intensify into a series of deaths involving women across Gauteng’s East Rand.
The latest body was found in a river in the Clayville area near Tembisa Mall in Ekurhuleni.Police say the woman is believed to have been in her late twenties.
Most of her clothing was missing, although she was reportedly wearing underwear. Acting Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana , says there were no visible injuries on the woman’s body during preliminary examinations.
However, the case has been included in the wider investigation to establish whether there are links between the deaths. Earlier on Tuesday, police discovered the body of another woman in Kwa-Thema, Springs.
The victim was reportedly found naked and in an advanced state of decomposition. Preliminary information suggests she may have been strangled. The developments follow the discovery of five women’s bodies in and around Kempton Park since July.
One of the victims has been identified as 38-year-old Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo, who went missing after leaving her Kempton Park home for an afternoon run on 9 September. Her family positively identified her body at the Germiston mortuary on Monday.
Police have formed a multidisciplinary team to investigate the deaths and establish whether the cases are connected. Authorities have previously warned women in and around Kempton Park, particularly Rhodesfield, to exercise extreme caution.
Police have not confirmed that the deaths are the work of a serial killer and say investigations are continuing.
