A 78-year old woman, from Gavaza Village has been living in difficult conditions since strong winds tore off the roof of her home in December 2025.
The storm left the house badly damaged, with broken windows, cracked walls and no roof. A tent now covers the structure, but the family says rainwater still enters the house leading to damaged furniture and other belongings.
The family’s situation recently drew the attention of the Greater Tzaneen Municipality Mayor Cllr Odas Ngobeni, who visited the home to assess the damage. During the visit, Ngobeni pledged to seek sponsorships to assist the family in repairing the house and restoring safer living conditions.
The family hopes that the promised assistance will help speed up repairs and bring an end to months of hardship.
