Nine people died in a head-on collision between a bus and a minibus taxi near Standerton, Mpumalanga, early on 21 May 2026.
The crash occurred about 5km outside Standerton on the road to Morgenzon, just before dawn. Eight passengers died at the scene, with the death toll later rising to nine.
According to the latest update, a 10th person has since died from injuries sustained in the crash. Several others remain in hospital receiving treatment.The Mpumalanga Department of Transport confirmed the incident.
Authorities have urged drivers to be cautious, especially in low-visibility conditions, and said investigations into the cause are ongoing.
