The African National Congress (ANC) says that President Cyril Ramaphosa will remain in his job, even though there is a lot of pressure on him to resign.
This comes after the Phala Phala scandal, where a large amount of money was stolen from Ramaphosa’s farm. Some lawmakers believe he may have done something wrong.
However, Parliament voted against taking action against him. Opposition parties, including the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), disagreed with this decision. They took the matter to the Constitutional Court of South Africa.
The court ruled that Parliament did not handle the case properly. After the ruling, most people thought Ramaphosa might step down. He has made it clear that he will not resign. Instead, he plans to go to court and challenge the decision.
The ANC supports this move and says he is using legal processes, not avoiding responsibility. The party’s Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula, spoke to the media at Luthuli House in Johannesburg and confirmed the ANC’s position.
He said the party wants stability in the country and believes Ramaphosa should remain in the office. There is still a chance that Parliament could start a process to remove the president.
However, the ANC says this does not mean he will definitely lose his job. They say everything will be done according to the law. Political experts warn that the scandal could make Ramaphosa’s job more difficult, especially with elections coming soon.
For now, the ANC continues to stand by him and wants the government to remain stable.
