Avhapfani Tshifularo, the chief executive officer(CEO) of fuel industry association, said that the price of petrol is set to increase by R5 per litre.

This is after the price of Brent Crude Oil dramatically went high after the United States and Israel attacked Iran on February.

Tshifularo warns that, according to the data posted daily by the Central Energy Fund, fuel prices are expected to surge record levels that have never been seen before. He added that the weakening of the rand against the dollar is playing a significant role in the expected fuel price increase.

He also added that there are no signs that South Africans will experience fuel shortages as the war continues. According to him, the government maintains strategic fuel reserves as instructed by the Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources.

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources is pleading with the public to not panic about fuel, assuring South Africans that the country’s fuel supply remains stable.

They further caution that rushing to petrol stations is irresponsible and could lead to unnecessary congestion at fuel stations.
