Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has called for stronger collaboration between government, municipalities, businesses and other stakeholders to address the province’s water challenges.

Ramathuba was speaking at the Lepelle Northern Water Golf Day dinner and prize-giving ceremony at Euphoria Golf Estate in Modimolle-Mookgophong on Friday.

She said water is not only essential for households but is also critical for economic development, including agriculture, mining, tourism, healthcare, education and investment.

The Premier highlighted the work of the Provincial Water War Room, which was established to respond to recurring water supply interruptions in Polokwane and surrounding areas. She said cooperation between Lepelle Northern Water, the City of Polokwane, municipalities and the Department of Water and Sanitation had helped improve responses to water challenges.

Ramathuba also linked reliable water supply to Limpopo’s plans to attract investment, saying investors need infrastructure and infrastructure requires a secure water supply.

The golf day also raised funds to support students pursuing careers in water engineering.

Ramathuba welcomed the initiative, saying Limpopo needs more engineers, scientists, technicians, hydrologists and other specialists to address future water challenges.

She said collaboration and investment in skills would help turn water security into economic growth and improve the quality of life of Limpopo residents.
