Paris Saint-Germain forward Ferran Torres has been named the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week for Matchday 1 following his outstanding performance against Slovan Bratislava.
Torres scored a hat-trick as PSG began their title defence with a convincing 6-1 victory over the Slovakian side. It was his first Champions League appearance for the French champions.
The Spanish forward was among four players shortlisted for the award. Stuttgart striker Ermedin Demirović finished second after also scoring a hat-trick, while Barcelona captain Raphinha was third after scoring twice in his team’s 5-1 win over Feyenoord.
Real Betis defender Marc Bartra completed the shortlist after scoring twice in his side’s 3-2 victory over Lille.
Torres’ hat-trick came as PSG made a strong start to their campaign as they look to defend their Champions League title.
The award is decided through a fan vote after nominees are selected by UEFA’s Technical Observer Group.
