KZN police arrest over 11,000 suspects and recover 278 firearms in February

Police in KwaZulu-Natal arrested more than 11,000 suspects and recovered 278 firearms during crime prevention operations carried out in February.

According to a report published by independent online and written by Hope Ntanzi, the arrests were made during several operations conducted across the province.

The operations included roadblocks, stop-and-search activities, and raids in different communities.

The South African police service SAPS) said the arrests were part of ongoing crime-fighting efforts, including the nationwide initiative known as Operation Shanela.

Police targeted suspects linked to various crimes such as murder, robbery, assault, and illegal possession of firearms.

During these operations, officers also confiscated 278 firearms, which police believe could have been used in criminal activities.

Authorities say removing illegal weapons from communities is a major step in reducing violent crime.

Police added that these operations will continue in various parts of KwaZulu-Natal as part of their strategy to improve safety and protect residents.

Officials have encouraged community members to work with police and report criminal activities in their areas.
