North West businessman, Brown Mogotsi has claimed that he received sensitive information from alleged criminal, kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala before infiltrating the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) as an informant.

Testifying before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee probing allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system, Mogotsi alleged that Matlala told him an IPID employee had the ability to manipulate or “hack” case information, making criminal matters disappear.

According to Mogotsi, his mission was to identify and investigate the alleged IPID insider.

He told the committee he wanted to uncover who within the watchdog agency was interfering with cases, claiming the individual could influence investigations even when evidence existed.

Mogotsi declined to discuss details of his findings during the hearing, citing the sensitivity of the ongoing investigation.

The revelations form part of a broader parliamentary probe into claims that elements within law enforcement and oversight bodies may have been compromised.
