The community of Saulsville, west of Pretoria, was left shaken after a brutal mass shooting in the early hours of Saturday, 6 December 2025.
According to the police, a group of armed men entered a small tavern-style bar inside a local hostel at around 04:15 a.m. and opened fire on patrons without warning.
Witnesses say the attackers moved quickly, targeting people at close range before fleeing the scene.
Several victims died on the spot, while others were rushed to nearby hospitals having sustained critical injuries.
Families gathered outside the hostel throughout the morning, desperately waiting for news as authorities worked to identify the deceased.
Police have confirmed that the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
However, early indications suggest that the shooting may be linked to ongoing tensions within the hostel community.
No arrests have been made yet, but investigators say they are following strong leads.
Community leaders have described the attack as “senseless” and “deeply frightening,” calling for increased security and faster intervention from law-enforcement officials.
Residents say violence in the area has been growing in recent months, with Saturday’s incident becoming one of the most devastating.
As the nation grapples with rising violent crime, the Saulsville shooting has once again highlighted the urgent need for improved policing, better conflict-prevention strategies, and stronger protection for vulnerable communities.
The investigation continues, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
