Limpopo MEC Violet Mathye has expressed sadness after an accident that claimed the lives of six people, five who are family members.
The devastating accident occurred on the D4170 road at Mopetsi Bridge in the Sekhukhune district on Sunday. Reports state that the driver of a double cab carrying eight occupants lost control of the vehicle which resulted in a fatal crash that claimed the lives of six people at the scene.
According to MEC spokesperson Dali Tshifhiwa, the remaining occupants who were injured in the crash were taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
These are indeed tough times, particularly for the family who lost five loved ones. On behalf of the Department, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and next of kin, and we wish those who are injured a speedy recovery,” he added. “The MEC also expressed gratitude to the Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune, Cllr Minah Bahule, and her team for their leadership and support during this challenging time”.
“As we head into the Festive Season, the Department will be increasing traffic deployments to try and reduce accidents. We also want to remind everyone to please prioritize road safety”.
