South African music duo, Mapara A Jazz, best known for their chart-topping hit “John Vuli Gate,” have reportedly been kidnapped in Ethiopia, according to a post shared on their official Facebook page.
The shocking message claimed that the pair was being held against their will in an undisclosed location while on a trip to the East African country.
Details surrounding the alleged abduction remain unclear, with fans have flooding social media with messages of concern and prayers for the musicians’ safety.
The duo’s fame rose in 2020 when “John Vuli Gate” became a viral dance anthem, cementing their place among South Africa’s most recognizable musical acts.
Currently no official confirmation from Ethiopian authorities has been stated, nor from the South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), or the duo’s management team.
Law enforcement and diplomatic officials have not yet released statements verifying the incident or offering further information about the duo’s whereabouts.
The post has nonetheless sparked widespread speculation and anxiety, with many urging the South African government to intervene swiftly.
Ethiopia has faced growing issues with kidnappings and ransom crimes in certain regions, with reports of both locals and foreigners being abducted in recent years.
Security experts note that visiting public figures and foreign nationals can be vulnerable in unstable areas or when traveling without adequate protection. If confirmed, the kidnapping of Mapara A Jazz would underscore these risks and raise serious concerns about the safety of touring artists in parts of the continent.
For now, fans and fellow artists are hoping for the duo’s safe return and clarity from official sources.
Until further information emerges, the situation remains fluid, and the music world waits anxiously for updates.
