A minibus taxi collided with two trucks, resulting in one of the deadliest accidents on the route in recent months.
A devastating collision involving a minibus taxi and two trucks occurred near Ga-Sekgopo between Mooketsi and Polokwane, resulting in 13 fatalities, including a young girl.
All 13 fatalities were passengers in the minibus taxi, which was trapped between two trucks on the R81 highway. One truck driver sustained minor injuries, while the other was not harmed.
Preliminary report shows that among the deceased are 12 women, a girl who is about 7 years of age and a male minibus taxi driver. The deceased were travelling from a church service to Magoro village, outside Giyani when the devastating collision took place.
The transport Department said they will release details of the deceased after their families have been informed.
Emergency services, personnel, traffic officers and police have been working to clear the scene after the devastating collision and authorities are investigating the possible cause of the accidents.
