Lamine Yamal has revealed how former Spain captain, Álvaro Morata, helped boost his confidence before Spain’s international clash against Brazil in 2024.
Yamal was only 16 years old at the time, but Morata recognised the youngster’s ability and encouraged him to believe in himself before the match.
According to Yamal’s recollection, Morata told him that he was already among the world’s best players and that he needed to show it on the pitch. The conversation left an impression on the young winger.
Yamal has previously described the Brazil match at the Santiago Bernabéu as an important moment in his development, saying the performance gave him increased confidence with the Spanish national team.
The teenager went on to become one of Spain’s key attacking players, while Morata’s leadership gave an example of how experienced players can influence younger teammates.
The story also highlights an important part of football that often goes unnoticed: the conversations between players away from the cameras. For Yamal, Morata’s words were more than simple encouragement.
They became a reminder to trust his ability and express himself on the biggest stage.
