Pitso Mosimane’s comments about Oswin Appollis and Kamogelo Sebelebele have sparked a major debate among South African football supporters following Bafana Bafana’s 2–1 victory over Guinea.

Mosimane explained that Appollis needs to adapt his game when playing for the national team.

According to the Bafana Bafana coach, Appollis naturally drifts inside for Orlando Pirates, but with Aubrey Modiba moving into central areas, the winger needs to remain wider to create the necessary balance.

Mosimane also said there are moments when Sebelebele needs to hold his position rather than constantly pushing forward.

His comments have divided opinion online, with some supporters arguing that national-team football requires players to adapt to the coach’s tactical plan, while others believe players should be allowed to use the strengths and combinations they have developed at club level. Interestingly, Mosimane’s comments about Sebelebele were not entirely negative.

The coach praised the Pirates defender after he overcame a difficult opening period against Guinea’s Aliou Baldé and eventually won the Player of the Match award.

The debate ultimately comes down to one question: Should Bafana Bafana players adapt completely to Mosimane’s system, or should the system be adjusted to maximise each player’s club strengths?
