Mamelodi Sundowns have been crowned 2026 FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup champions, after defeating Saudi Arabian side Al Ahli 2-1 at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
The South African champions secured the trophy through two goals from Portuguese forward Nuno Santos, who opened the scoring in the 17th minute before completing his brace in the 80th minute.
Al Ahli equalised shortly after Santos’ first goal through an own goal involving Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, setting up a closely contested encounter.
Sundowns held their nerve to secure the victory in front of a packed home crowd and continue their impressive run in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
The victory also means the Tshwane-based club progress to the FIFA Challenger Cup, where they will face the winner of the Derby of the Americas.
Sundowns entered the competition after winning the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, their second continental title. Their latest triumph gives them another opportunity to compete on the global stage.
The eventual Challenger Cup winner will earn a place in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final against European champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Sundowns have now added another international trophy to their growing list of achievements.
