A 37 year old suspect has been arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team in Bellville for allegedly obtaining vehicle finance through fraudulent means.

The arrest was carried out on 17 September 2026 with the assistance of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) after a warrant for the suspect’s arrest had been issued.

According to police, the case dates back to February 2019 when the suspect allegedly submitted false proof of income in support of an application for vehicle finance. The application was approved, enabling him to obtain finance for a 2019 Mercedes-Benz 6.3 AMG valued at R354 990.

Police investigations later revealed that the finance application contained false information. Following the investigation, the vehicle was recovered and returned to the financial institution that had provided the finance.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on 18 September 2026 to face charges relating to vehicle finance fraud.
