Two suspected armed robbers have died in a motor vehicle crash in the Marble Hall policing area in Limpopo, hours after an alleged business robbery at a filling station in Dennilton.
Police say about 13 armed men stormed the filling station at Moteti Complex at around 2:30 Tuesday morning.
The suspects allegedly threatened security guards and a cashier before using an explosive device to breach a safe in the cash office.
They reportedly fled on foot while firing several shots, making off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Several cartridges were recovered at the scene.
At around 5:10am, police received information about a white Nissan Navara that had overturned along the R573 between Slaagboom and Siyabuswa, towards Marble Hall.
Two men were found inside the vehicle. The driver was certified dead at the scene, while the passenger was taken to hospital with serious head injuries but later died.
Police recovered an R5 rifle, two magazines, 56 rounds of R5 ammunition, two 9mm pistols, a 9mm magazine and one 9mm round of ammunition from the vehicle.
The two deceased suspects, aged 34 and 35, have since been identified.
Police say preliminary investigations have linked both men to the Dennilton business robbery.
Cases of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as culpable homicide, have been opened.
The investigation continues as police work to identify and arrest the remaining suspects.
