At least 21 people have died in a horrific crash on the N1 between Prince Albert and Leeu-Gamka in the Western Cape.
The collision happened at around 11.30pm on Sunday and involved two minibus taxis and a station wagon.
The crash was so severe that authorities closed the N1 in both directions while emergency teams responded to the scene.
The identities of those who died have not yet been released.
Authorities are expected to provide more information on the cause of the crash and the number of people injured.
Motorists have been urged to avoid the affected section of the N1 and use alternative routes where possible.
The crash has once again raised concerns about road safety and the dangers faced by passengers and motorists on South Africa’s roads.
