The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will hear testimony from a new witness on Monday morning in Johannesburg.

The commission was established by Cyril Ramaphosa to investigate allegations of political interference and corruption within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The hearings are currently taking place under phase two of the inquiry, during which individuals implicated in earlier testimony are responding to the claims made against them.

The new witness is expected to provide additional information regarding the serious accusations levelled at senior police officials.

The inquiry aims to establish the facts and strengthen accountability within the criminal justice system.

The commission was formed after Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, made allegations against top SAPS officials.

He claimed that certain officials were working with criminal syndicates and interfering in investigations.

Mkhwanazi also accused Senzo Mchunu of unlawfully disbanding the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), which had been investigating politically motivated murders in KwaZulu-Natal.

During phase two of the hearings, those mentioned in earlier testimony are appearing before the commission to respond to the allegations.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu and suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner for Crime Detection, Shadrack Sibiya, have already testified. Sibiya has been accused of having links to an alleged criminal cartel.

Both Mchunu and Sibiya have denied the allegations of corruption and wrongdoing.

The commission is expected to continue its work in the coming weeks as it seeks to determine the facts and restore public confidence in the police service.
