A new digital centre was officially launched in Pretoria on 6 March 2026, to help grow technology and innovation in Africa.
The centre, called the Africa Digital Transformation Centre, was launched by the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies together with the International Telecommunication Union.
It aims to improve digital skills, support new tech businesses, and encourage innovation across the region.
The centre will be located at the Innovation Hub.
It will work by offering training, supporting research, and helping start-up’s and small businesses grow through technology programs and partnerships.
The launch event brought together government officials, technology experts, and business leaders.
Speaking at the event, Mondli Gungubele explained that the centre will help develop digital skills and create opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
The centre will focus on areas such as digital content, recognition systems, and learning through technology and gaming.
These areas are important for modern digital development and can help young people gain new skills for the future.
The new centre is expected to strengthen digital knowledge across African countries.
It will also help governments, universities, and research institutions work together to improve technology development.
Experts believe that the Africa Digital Transformation Centre could play an important role in building a stronger digital eeconomy by supporting innovation and training people in digital skills.
The centre hopes to create more jobs and help African countries compete in the global technology industry.
