The R7.5 billion Durban Film City project, led by film producer, Anant Singh, is proceeding after many years of delays, following intervention by the Presidential eThekwini Working Group to resolve legal and municipal issues.
The project had previously been stalled due to ongoing legal disputes and challenges with the local municipality.
However, recent efforts by the working group aided clear these obstacles, allowing the development of the project to continue.
The plan is to build a large film and entertainment hub that will include movie studios, cinemas, restaurants, and leisure activities. The aim is to boost tourism, create jobs, and support the local economy.
According to Singh, the vision is to create a space where films are produced while also offering entertainment to the public, similar to Universal Studios Hollywood.
The project is expected to strengthen the country’s film industry and provide more opportunities for local filmmakers and creatives.
Although no completion date has been announced yet, the restart of the project is seen as an important step forward for Durban.
