Who Really Wanted AKA Dead? Extradited Suspects and New Questions in the AKA Murder Case

Mafemo Madimetja

South Africa is watching closely as the Ndimande brothers, Siyabonga and Malusi, were extradited from Eswatini, and made their first court appearance this week in connection to the killings of rapper, Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and his friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

The brothers will face trial alongside five other accused in a highly anticipated case. Their extradition follows a long legal battle — earlier reports show they initially resisted the extradition request before ultimately abandoning their appeal.

For AKA’s father, Tony Forbes, the return of the suspects is personal — but he’s demanding more than just arrests. “We must not forget that the person who commissioned this is not among the seven who have now been arrested,” Forbes said, calling for those who ordered the hit to also be brought to justice.

The gravity of the situation is amplified by the heavy security accompanying their arrival at King Shaka International Airport, as law enforcement braces for the high-stakes trial.

This development raises tough questions: Is violent crime in South Africa fueled by deeper, more powerful forces? And if so, will the trial finally expose those behind the gun — or are we still just scratching the surface?
