Leshweng Shokane, a 53 year-old man arrested for multiple charges including fraud, money laundering and nine counts of murder,receiving proceeds from unlawful activities and defeating the ends of justice.
He was arrested on the 4th of November and allegedly shared the illicit profits with Madjadji and Johannes. He made his second court appearance on the 18th of November 2025 at the Polokwane Magistrates Court.
He was found to be the brother of the former police officer Rachel Raesetsa Shokane(43), who was stationed at the Senwabarwana Police station, and Annah Shokane(23) as well the uncle to Madjadji Flora Shokane(23), all from Moletjie Makgofe.
“It is alleged that between 2013 and 2022, Rachel and Annah fraudulently took out life and funeral insurance policies for several victims, later claiming payouts totaling approximately R10 million as beneficiaries,” said Mashudu Malabi Dzangi, the NPA’s regional spokeswoman.
“The state has brought an application to join Johannes to the main case involving the other three accused.
The trial of Rachel, Annah,and Madjadji has been transferred to the Polokwane high court, where it is set to commence from 5 to 30 october 2026. The accused will remain in custody untill then.” said Malabi-Dzangi .
The case has been postponed to the 9 december for a formal bail application.
