ActionSA announces a former TV presenter and crime activist, Xolani Khumalo as its mayoral candidate for the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality ahead of the 2026 local elections.
The announcement came during a gathering in Tembisa, where the president of ActionSA, Herman Mashaba introduced Khumalo as the party’s choice to lead the metro with a vision of accountability and service delivery.
Khumalo built his public profile through Sizok’thola, a show that exposed alleged drug dens and social ills. His outspoken stance on crime made him a controversial figure — but also one with grassroots appeal.
In 2023, the presenter faced serious legal charges over the death of an alleged drug dealer, which drew intense scrutiny. That case was later withdrawn under provisional terms, but it still forms part of the narrative around his entrance into politics.
Khumalo’s selection signals ActionSA’s push to disrupt traditional politics in Ekurhuleni. His track record, public image, and controversies will all play a role in shaping how his campaign is received — and whether voters believe he can deliver on his tough talk.
