Minister of Sports, Gayton Mckenzie, has discovered that there are some errors that occurred during the deduction process of SAFA. Therefore, they wanted them to take full accountability since it might cause a damage and kill the spirit of South African football players.
SAFA has deducted three points from Bafana Bafana for allowing Tebogo Mokoena in the field during their game in March with Lesotho. Tebogo Mokoena, a midfielder was supposed to be suspended because he already had three yellow card that time. SAFA put South Africa into a lot of pressure even though through that pressure and less confidence, they managed to qualify for 2026 World Cup that will take place in USA in the year, 2026.
This matter was delivered to SAFA president, Dr Danny Jordaan, together with the CEO Lydia Monyepao, to know how this error occurred. “The fans deserve full reassurance that appropriate measures have been taken, including consequences of management for those responsibility” minister said.
“It is not my intention, nor that of my department, to interfere in football matters. However, we are deeply committed to upholding the integrity of the game and maintaining South Africa’s reputation on the global stage” written by the Minister of Sports.
They still celebrate that South Africa ended up qualifying but they do not want that incident to overshadow the hard work of their players, coaches and their fans. Mckenzie demanded a full report from SAFA within seven days time to clean up the mess and also by so doing to protect the football players in this country.
