Students and staff at Capricorn TVET College’s Seshego campus were left in disbelief after a newborn baby was discovered abandoned in one of the campus bathrooms earlier this week.

The incident reportedly occurred on campus grounds when a cleaner discovered the newborn inside a bathroom cubicle. According to early reports, the baby was found alive and immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Sources suggest that a female student is believed to have given birth in the bathroom before leaving the newborn behind. The college management and local authorities have since launched an investigation into the matter to identify the mother and determine the circumstances that led to the abandonment.

The discovery sparked outrage and deep concern among students, with many taking to social media to express their shock and sadness. “It is heartbreaking to think that someone felt this was their only option,” one student wrote.

Police have confirmed that they are handling the case as child abandonment and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, the Department of Social Development has been notified and will oversee the baby’s welfare and placement.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing social issues surrounding young mothers, unplanned pregnancies, and access to emotional and psychological support on campuses across South Africa.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident while the public awaits further updates on the baby’s condition and the identity of the mother.
