Safety measures at Namakgale Crossing after Shooting

Namakgale crossing shopping centre in Phalaborwa has confirmed that safety measures are in place, to ensure the protection of visitors. This happens after a shooting incident that occurred at a nearby retail wholesaler on Sunday, September the 28th.

Authorities are currently investigating two murder charges and one charge of an attempted murder after a 45-year-old man allegedly stabbed, and shot his 40-year-old wife and also injured a store manager before fatally shooting himself.

The incident occurred in a public area, visible to shoppers and staff, sparking concerns about safety and security at the centre. Innocent Ngonyama, the shopping centre’s manager assures that the centre is equipped with sufficient security team and an armed response unit that intervenes when the panic buttons in each store are triggered.

Although the attempts to reach the store manager were unsuccessful, Ngonyama confirmed that all stores in the centre are now operating with enhanced security protocols.
