KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi reveals that certain wealthy business people often referred to as “tenderpreneurs,” are part of a group involved in state corruption. He stated in the Parliament that this criminal network has strong links inside the police, courts, and prisons making it difficult to deal with.

Mkhwanazi presented a chart with five main suspects known as the “Big Five.” Two of them, Vusumuzi “Cat” Matlala, and Katiso Molefe, are already on trial, while the other three are still being investigated.

Mkhwanazi also spoke about corruption within the justice system, stating that some magistrates make unfair rulings to help their associates. He added that crime continues behind bars, with prisoners paying guards to bring in illegal items or help them contact people outside prison.

He also criticised Police Minister, Senzo Mchunu’s choice to shut down the Political Killings Task Team, calling it a wrong and politically driven move.
