A well-known izinyoka receives a painful punishment while allegedly tampering with a huge transformer in broad daylight.
This incident occurred on the 23rd of October 2025, on a Thursday, at Mandela park village, QwaQwa in the Free State province. Villagers mentioned that they heard a loud noise coming from the transformer, followed by a loud scream and when they rushed to the scene, they found izinyoka laying next to the transformer with burnt bruises all over his body.
Izinyoka was found before allegedly stealing cables and vandalizing Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality’s electricity infrastructure, and was therefore punished by community patrols, but clearly that didn’t stop him.Izinyoka was taken to the hospital to receive medical attention.
A 46-year-old villager said that it was a shocking moment to see someone sitting next to the transformer with severe burns. The villagers only recognized him when they got closer and unfortunately, they couldn’t assist him and he had to wait for the ambulance to arrive.
The municipality’s spokesman, Thabo Kessah, said that an investigation will be held for these crimes.” we’ve taken note of the social media reports about a person tampering with our electricity infrastructure. We strongly condemn such acts of vandalism and cable theft, which have been plaguing our systems.
A thorough investigation will be conducted to get to the bottom of this matter” he said.
