Two young women from Mamelodi East, Tshiamo Moramaga (22) and Baleseng Moramaga (21), were found shot dead early on Sunday morning in Extension 17, Tshwane, leaving their family and the community deeply shocked and grieving.

According to police, officers from South African Police Service (SAPS) Mamelodi East responded to reports at around 04:15 a.m. and discovered the bodies of the victims, each with bullet wounds to the head. A double-murder investigation has been launched and detectives are working to establish the motive.

Their mother, Itumeleng Moramaga (41), described the pair as inseparable cousins who grew up like twins, and questioned how such a brutal crime could happen to two young women in their home community. “When I arrived at the scene I found it was them. I am now left with two sons. I do not know what happened,” she said amid tears.

A neighbour reported hearing an argument between one of the victims and an alleged boyfriend shortly before gunshots rang out on Sompisi Street on the early morning of 26 October. The youths had lived together in the area and rented a room nearby.

In response to the murders, the Aubrey Tau Foundation has stepped in, offering a reward of R250,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators.

As the investigation continues, the family is calling on community members with any information to come forward and assist SAPS in bringing those responsible to justice.
