Gauteng high Court in Pretoria dismisses President Cyril Ramaphosa’s bid to delay a R167 million constitutional damages case brought by families that were victims of the apartheid era.

The Court ruled that the case brought by the families can proceed, dismissing the government’s bid to delay the case which claims that the government failed to investigate apartheid era crimes despite TRC’s findings.

The Court’s ruling highlighted that the government’s request was baseless, and also mentioning how they sympathize with families that have been awaiting justice for years.

Judge Nicolene Janse Van Nieuwenhuizen condemned the government’s attempt to delay the case saying that it was strange that the same government which promised justice is now delaying it.

The Court’s decision is a crucial step that brings hope and accountability for the families that were affected by apartheid.
