Bheki Cele, former police minister, accepts the retraction by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi of his claim that he received money from Vusimuzi cat Matlala, who is accused of attempted murder.
Cele is set to appear before Parliament’s Ad Hoc committee probing allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption, and political meddling in the justice system.
Mkhwanazi made these claims in July this year.Mkhwanazi retracted the allegation after discovering an incorrect bank account number, indicating Cele was not the intended recipient.Cele informs the MPs that he made an honest mistake.
Cele also mentioned that he did not make any communication regarding any expectations to attempted murder suspect Vusimuzi Cat Matlala.
He was the police minister from 2018 to 2024.Cele says he allowed Matlala to use his penthouse for free on multiple occasions, and Matlala had previously reached out to EFF MP Leigh Ann Mathys for assistance.
