Bafana Bafana secured their place at the FIFA World Cup 2026, returning to the tournament after a 23-year absence. The team booked their qualification with decisive 3-0 victories over Rwanda and Nigeria, followed by a 4-0 win against Benin.

South Africa faced a significant challenge when they were deducted three points, allowing Benin to take the lead in Group C. However, the team remained determined and displayed resilience, proving their hunger to represent African football on the global stage.
Under the leadership of 73-year-old coach Hugo Broos, Bafana Bafana reclaimed their winning form and will join fellow African teams including Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cabo Verde, and Tunisia in the 2026 World Cup.
