Kgothatso Mamabolo

Today, September the 25th, the Madlanga Commission will receive testimony from an expert on the laws governing the South African Police Service. This is the third witness set to provide further insights to the commission, following the testimonies of Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Fannie Masemola.

It has been over five days since Mkhwanazi and Masemola testified about the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) ‘s establishment and dismantling, accusing senior politicians including Minister Mchunu of obstructing police investigations.

Mkhwanazi and Masemola also warned that criminal syndicates infiltration poses an existential threat to the country’s justice system.

The anticipation surrounding the SAPS legal expert’s testimony is obvious, especially given the crucial role they will play in clarifying the police service’s legislative framework and shedding light on key issues.

The expert’s testimony will likely give light on some critical questions, including who holds the highest authority, where accountability lies and who should be held responsible in cases of corruption and maladministration.
