The Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure has launched 22 preventative maintenance projects on roads across the province. This marks Phase 1 of the plan to maintain 69 roads in the current financial year, aimed at improving mobility and safety.
The department’s goal is to upgrade road infrastructure, boost economic development, and enhance the well-being of communities. According to department spokesperson Emmanuel Mongwe, the roads selected for maintenance were identified by residents during engagements with MEC Ernest Rachoene.
The department emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability through regular monitoring and evaluation of project progress. The MEC has encouraged municipalities and stakeholders to collaborate to ensure the smooth and successful completion of these projects.
Mongwe noted that some of the affected roads have deteriorated over the years, with potholes and damage caused by heavy rains and storms. He further indicated that the budget allocation for the initiative forms part of the department’s 2025/2026 financial budget.
