South Africa’s flyhalf Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu put on a record-breaking performance, scoring 37 points, as the Springboks overwhelmed Argentina 67-30 at King’s Park.
The standout display helped push South Africa to the top of the Rugby Championship standings. Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s performance included a hat-trick of tries, pinpoint kicking and strong game management, a combination that left Argentina trailing. His point haul surpasses Percy Montgomery’s previous single-test record for a Springbok.
South Africa’s forwards and backs both contributed heavily: tries came from Malcolm Marx, Cheslin Kolbe, Morne van den Berg, Pieter-Steph du Toit (2), and Manie Libbok. Argentina had been competitive in the first half, trailing 25-23 at the break, but the Springboks dominated after that, capitalizing on handling, depth and pressure.
Coach Rassie Erasmus praised Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s maturity, saying the young flyhalf is growing into the team’s backbone. But he also cautioned against complacency ahead of their final clash in London. Despite the emphatic win, the Springboks were hit with a blow: prop Ox Nche withdrew due to injury. Boan Venter was called up to replace him.
The 67-30 rout sends a clear message: South Africa means business in this year’s Rugby Championship.
With Feinberg-Mngomezulu in red hot form and the squad showing strength, the pressure is now on for their remaining match.
