Limpopo Education MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya has condemned a spate of school burglaries in the Sekhukhune South Education District, saying the theft and damage are disrupting teaching and learning.

The latest incidents were reported at Onismus Mogafe Primary School and Dikgalaopeng Primary School.

At Onismus Mogafe Primary School, the burglary took place overnight on 6 September.

The department says several items were stolen, including two laptops, a projector, a television, speakers, a mobile phone, a backup battery and school uniforms.

The suspects also allegedly stole 24 tins of fish and milk after forcing their way through several security points, causing extensive damage.

At Dikgalaopeng Primary School, the burglary was discovered on 4 September after several offices were found broken into.

The department says 46 Grade 1 tablets, a CCTV DVR, a projector and a multiplug were stolen. The school’s Wi-Fi infrastructure was also tampered with.

Police forensic teams processed the scene and collected potential evidence, including two caps found inside the administration office and pieces of a broken backdoor lock.

MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya says the incidents are particularly concerning as they target resources intended to support learners and teachers.

She has appealed to School Governing Bodies, parents and community members to work with the department and police to protect school infrastructure.

Police investigations into the burglaries are continuing.
