Six learners from Milnerton High School are expected to appear in court in Cape Town after being accused of bullying and assaulting a Grade 10 learner.
The incident reportedly happened in October last year, and the learners will appear at the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The six learners are facing charges as they are being accused of seriously attacking the victim.
A video went viral on social media showing how the learner was beaten with objects, including a hockey stick.
Each of the accused learners face eight charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Four of the learners were released on bail of R2 000, while the two minors were released into their parents’ care.
The incident has shocked many people and raised concerns about bullying and violence in schools.
Many parents and community members are calling for stronger action to make schools safer for learners.
