The university of Limpopo held its expected Student Representative Council Elections on the 8th of September 2025, with 5 student political parties contesting for leadership position. The contestbrought together Action SA, EFFYC, SASCO and SCO.
The final results revealed a decisive victory for the Economic Freedom Fighters Youth Command which secured 51.84% of the total votes. This celebration marks the party’s fourth consecutive term at the helm of students reaffirming its strong influence on campus politics.
The other parties’ results are as follows:
• SASCO:28.38%
• SCO: 15.82%
• MKSM: 2.70
• ACTION SA:1.25%
This outcome follows weeks of energetic campaigning marked by fierce rivalry, particularly between SASCO and EFFYC. SASCO entered the elections with strong momentum, encouraged by the confident declarations of its presidential candidate, Sgumza, and a well-attended manifesto event at Moshobane Square. SCO also hoped to claim influence by reintroducing former SRC president Viper, while speculation around EFFYC’s presidential candidate kept students guessing.
Despite these dynamics, it was EFFYC that ultimately maintained its dominance. Soon after the announcement, the university was filled with celebrations. The supporters of the EFFYC painted the campus red by marching, singing and chanting celebrating the continuation its leadership.
Therefore, newly elected SRC will continue to advocate for students’ interests and address the key issues affecting the university community.
